The itch to play in the NBA is still there for former college hoops superstar Jimmer Fredette. The BYU Cougars great recently spoke with Myron Medcalf of ESPN and expressed his continued desire to find his way back to the greatest basketball league in the world.

“I would always love to get another chance in the NBA,” Fredette told ESPN.com. “I've gotten better in China and improved every year. … You hope somebody takes notice.”

Fredette is still under contract with his Chinese Basketball Association team, the Shanghai Sharks, but he’s currently preparing for The Basketball Tournament, a single-elimination tournament akin to March Madness with the winning team taking home $2 million.

Fredette, 29, said he'll honor his contract and play another year in the Chinese Basketball Association, where the 6-foot-2 guard is a star, before pursuing another opportunity in the NBA. The No. 10 pick in the 2011 NBA draft, Fredette averaged 6.0 points per game in five seasons with Sacramento, New Orleans, Chicago and New York.

After a stellar four-year stint with BYU, Fredette declared for the 2011 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 10th pick overall before trading him to the Sacramento Kings. He last played in the NBA for the New York Knicks during the 2015-16 season, suiting up for only two games and mustering just seven points.

In China, however, Fredette has become some sort of a basketball demigod, as he reprised the scoring-machine role he had during his days as a Cougar.
