New York Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes had quite a performance in the 5-1 series finale win over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday.

Cortes allowed a mere three hits and one earned run during his 8.0 innings of work against the reigning AL Central champions. He also tallied for seven strikeouts and 13 swings and misses in the contest, as he continually had his way with a promising lineup in the American League today.

Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson was not only impressed with Cortes’ outing on the day but also with his speedy work on the mound. More so, as he noted after the game, Donaldson sees a bit of former All-Star pitcher Mark Buehrle in the fifth-year hurler.

“I felt like I can barely even get from the dugout to the field in time, he's ready to go,” Donaldson said. “It almost reminded me of a former teammate of mine, Mark Buehrle. Just getting it going, changing speeds, get ground balls, action early.

“He forced them to start swinging the bat, and we were making plays behind him, which is nice.”

Donaldson did not have a front-row seat to watch Buehrle’s stout seasons while with the White Sox, although he was teammates with him for one campaign with the Toronto Blue Jays. Buehrle was well renowned for being a fast worker between pitches on the mound, which Cortes has excelled at as of late.

Cortes now boasts a 1.35 ERA through seven starts on the season. His next start is slated to come on May 20, where he will once again face off with the White Sox.
