Anyone need a proven scorer with 16 years of NBA experience? Give JR Smith a call. The 2-time NBA champion has made himself available if only teams are willing to get in touch.

JR Smith tweeted out his intent to make an NBA comeback, if even for just a brief 10-day contract via the hardship exemption.

“So since we just giving out 10 days to see who wants to play,” said JR Smith via Twitter. “I’m still willing and want to play basketball. My phone number hasn’t changed.”

JR Smith hasn't played in an NBA game since the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA title in the Orlando bubble, and even then he was far removed from his last truly productive season.

Still, NBA teams could do a lot worse than signing JR Smith for a brief spell while their players return from health and safety protocols. He's been through the grind and back and could probably outplay a handful of the youngsters making rosters via the hardship exemption.

It remains unclear how serious he is. On one hand, the COVID-19 boom has forced teams to take drastic measures and consider players they normally wouldn't have. On the other hand, JR Smith is thriving as a student pursuing a degree at North Carolina A&T. He might just be speaking in jest as he tries to build on his reported 4.0 GPA from his first semester of school.
