When the free agency period begins, the New Orleans Pelicans will shift all of their attention toward retaining former All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday to a long-term deal.

It had been reported earlier on Friday that the Pelicans were expected to ink Holiday to a five-year deal. However, Tony Jones from the Salt Lake Tribune has revealed that the 27-year-old is considering signing with the Indiana Pacers.

With Indiana dealing away All-Star forward Paul George to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night, it puts the team in the market to add more talent to fill the massive void. The Pacers could foreseeably offer Holiday a lucrative four-year deal once free agency period begins.

That said, the Pelicans will likely make a major push to keep their point guard this offseason. He has been a stabilizing piece in the backcourt for the team despite dealing with injuries over the last few seasons.

Holiday is coming off another productive season where he averaged 15.4 points and 7.3 assists per game. He was highly productive over the last 38 games of the regular season, averaging 16.5 points on 47.7 percent shooting from the floor along with 7.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals.

All in all, this could be one of the more intriguing storylines in free agency.
