Katie Ledecky is no longer queen of the 400-meter freestyle. The seven-time Olympic gold medalist wasn't exactly surprised to see her previous record broken once again at the swimming world championships.

Ledecky finished second in the 400m on Sunday in Fukoaka, Japan, behind new world-record holder Ariarne Titmus' winning time of three minutes, 55.38 seconds. Summer McIntosh had previously bested Ledecky's record earlier this season, but came in fourth at the swimming championships behind bronze medalist Erika Fairweather.

Titmus came in 3.35 seconds ahead of Ledecky, who anticipated a new record being set in the 400m freestyle.

“I think you could see a world record coming,” Ledecky said, per ESPN. “Once a couple of people do something, more people start doing it. It's been a very fast year of swimming, and it was predictable that it will be a really fast field.”

Titmus, 22, has not lost a 400m freestyle event in the last five years, but didn't have her sights set on the record books entering the race.

“It wasn't something [breaking the record] that I had my mind on for this meet,” the Australian star said. “I just wanted to come here and try and swim the way I know I'm capable of. I knew the only way to win, I believed, was to try to take it out [fast], and whoever had as much fight left at the end was going to win it.”

Ledecky moves on to focus on the 800m and 1500m freestyle at the world championships, events in which she still holds world records.
