Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has won the ESPY award for the Best Championship Performance.

Durant led the Warriors to their second championship in three seasons, posting averages of 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, consequently earning Finals MVP honors.

Durant didn’t just play part, but shouldered the Warriors’ scoring load alongside Stephen Curry, after dealing with poor scoring performances from marksman Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

His impact was felt at both ends, proving to be a much-improved defender and one that can threaten to come up with big defensive plays, even as part of smaller lineups.

A year removed from leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder, the four-time scoring champion adapted to a more efficient ball-sharing offense that saw him post the best field goal percentage of his career while playing the least amount of minutes per game.

Durant rebounded from a knee injury and came back during the last few games of the season, also missing two postseason game but keeping his scoring instinct intact — raising his scoring average as every series passed.

His Game 3 dagger three-point pull-up jumper over LeBron James with 45 seconds left on the clock was one that changed the scope of the series — turning a potential loss down the stretch into a three-game lead for Golden State — ultimately winning the series 4-1 and his first and long-awaited NBA title.
