Buddy Hield had a tremendous breakout season in his third year in the league, averaging over 20 points a game for a resurgent Sacramento Kings team that fought hard and almost made it into the playoffs in a loaded Western Conference last season.

Now that both Kosta Koufos and Willie Cauley-Stein are no longer members of the Kings, Buddy Hield is the longest-tenured King — which is rather surprising, considering he didn’t join the team until halfway through the 2016-17 season.

Either way, the 26-year-old seems quite happy about his fate, as he tweeted in response to this fact.

Certainly, Hield seems to be on the verge of breaking into the upper echelon of the NBA, as he produced a sterling campaign in his third season in the league. He produced career-highs in points per game (20.7), usage rate (25.1%) and true shooting percentage (58.7%) all while cashing in on 42.7 percent of his 3-pointers.

Though he aged two years in a day during the season (after admitting he was actually two years older than his listed age due to a clerical snafu), Hield was still an immensely important part of the Kings’ relative success in the 2018-19 season.

He and backcourt partner De’Aaron Fox were a dynamic and engaging pairing, and they make up a scintillating young core for the Kings that also includes Marvin Bagley, Bogdan Bogdanovic and Harry Giles.

It seems that Hield is ready to stay for the long run in Sacramento, which is surely welcome news for Kings fans.
