The New York Knicks are listing point guard Elfrid Payton as questionable to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.

Payton isn't dealing with an injury, though. Instead, the Knicks guard flew home to be with his newborn daughter:

The Knicks are 10-25 on the season. They have the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference. Only the Atlanta Hawks have a worse record than the Knicks in the East.

In his first season with the Knicks, Payton is averaging 7.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.1 assists. He's shooting 39.7 percent from the field, 26.5 percent from beyond the arc and 51.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Payton has started nine games for the Knickerbockers this season. He signed a free-agent deal with New York this past summer after playing for the New Orleans Pelicans last season. Payton, 25, has career averages of 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists in 360 games with the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Pelicans and Knicks.

New York won't be making the playoffs this season. After missing out on stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency, the Knicks used their cap space on Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Marcus Morris, Wayne Ellington, Elfrid Payton and Reggie Bullock. That’s a lot of power forwards on one team and guys who don’t really move the needle.
