Kristaps Porzingis put up scintillating numbers to match the brightness of the marquee matchup in the Big Apple between the New York Knicks and the visiting Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night.

Porzingis poured in a game-high 37 points on the strength of a 14-of-26 shooting from the field – including five 3-pointers – and added 11 boards and five blocks to power the Knicks to a 113-109 victory, their second in a row and third in the last four outings.

Tommy Beer of Basketball Insiders added more context to Kristaps Porzingis’ huge game, noting that the Latvian unicorn’s performance was the first of its kind in NBA history.

After previously missing two games because of an ankle injury and an illness, the Knicks' rising star showed no signs of ill effects from those health issues, as he’s averaged 27.0 points on 45.2 field goal shooting percentage in the last four contests.

On the season, Porzingis is averaging 26.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game.

The Knicks need Kristaps Porzingis to sustain those numbers, especially with the team’s second-best scorer in Tim Hardaway Jr. sidelined due to a leg injury.

Porzingis and the Knicks will look to win three in a row this Thursday, when they pay state-rival Brooklyn Nets a visit.
