The New York Knicks kept their checkbook out after their $104 million Jalen Brunson signing. This time, the locked up starting center Mitchell Robinson.

The news was broken by ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski via his agents:

Free agent center Mitchell Robinson has agreed on a new four-year, $60 million contract to stay with the New York Knicks, his agents Thad Foucher and Joe Smith of Wasserman Basketball tell ESPN.

Mitchell Robinson has had an up-and-down career with the New York Knicks throughout his first four seasons in the NBA. As a rookie, he showed promise as a game-changing shot-blocker and rim-runner at the center spot. But David Fizdale refused to hand him the keys due to being relatively raw, instead opting for guys like Noah Vonleh, Taj Gibson, and Deandre Jordan ahead of him.

When he finally got the starting job during the Knicks' resurgent playoff season in 2020-21, he was forced into a time share with Nerlens Noel, who had a solid season of his own, before Robinson's season ended prematurely due to injuries.

Mitchell Robinson finally had a relatively healthy year last season, playing in a career-high 72 contests and starting in 62 of them. He's regressed in some areas compared to his first two season, dipping below two blocks per game and 50 percent from the free throw line. But he's still just 24 years old and has an opportunity to solidify his spot on the Knicks next season.
