New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson did not want to elaborate much on a since-deleted tweet that sent mixed messages about his feelings regarding his role on the team.

The tweet, sent after Tuesday's loss to the Utah Jazz, said “One day they'll let me play.” It was a strange statement, considering Robinson had started every game and was playing nearly 30 minutes per contest.

The Knicks center said Friday morning he preferred not to discuss the matter:

“It was like a personal thing,” Robinson said, via Steve Popper of Newsday. “So I really – At the same time, I don’t even want to talk about that. It’s just something that’s going on in my life. And I’ll leave that alone.”

The 22-year-old appeared to walk back his comments just slightly, saying he would do what is necessary so long as the Knicks continue to win:

“I kind of like my role,” Robinson said, via Popper. “We’re winning games, why change it? Know what I mean? Anything that I could do to help win more would be great, but I just want to keep it consistent. We’re doing pretty good right now so why change?”

That statement still does not explain Robinson's frustrations with the Knicks, though he could be eager to have a bigger role in the offense. Robinson has consistently hinted at a desire to expand his game to the perimeter and develop into more of a stretch big. But he has yet to take a single 3-pointer in his NBA career.

Maybe Robinson will gradually move out to the arc. But for now, the Knicks will continue to use him as a rim-running presence who hounds the offensive glass.

For what it's worth, Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau brushed off the incident on Thursday.
