The New York Knicks were dealt a significant blow on Friday after it was announced that Derrick Rose will need to go under the knife again. The former league MVP is currently dealing with an injury on his right ankle and is expected to spend some time on the shelf.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has provided more details on Rose's injury and it actually sounds like the issue at hand is not overwhelmingly problematic:

While the procedure will still address the same ankle that was surgically repaired last December, the good news is that the problem now is just a skin infection. There appear to be no structural issues at hand, which is why Rose could return in as soon as a week or two. This is, however, a best-case scenario for the oft-injured veteran.

Rose has played in just 26 games for the Knicks this season and he hasn't suited up since mid-December. New York would sure love to get him back following their decision to bench Kemba Walker for the remainder of the season. The Knicks backcourt is pretty shredded right now and Rose's return cannot come soon enough for a team that hopes to keep its playoff hopes alive.
