The New York Knicks have been one of the biggest surprise teams of the season so far. They have performed beyond expectations and right now are in a playoff spot in the tightly contested Eastern Conference. As such, the Knicks brass is reportedly looking to upgrade their backcourt, with Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans and Terry Rozier of the Charlotte Hornets rumored to be a couple of their primary targets.

The emergence of rookie Immanuel Quickley has been a key development for the Knicks this season, but as it is, the Knicks do not consider the 21-year-old to be their long-term option at the PG spot:

According to the New York Post, as electric as rookie Immanuel Quickley has been, they still think he could be a good option as their sixth-man or as an off-the-ball guard in the right alignment. He’s not viewed as an elite playmaker or their long-term point guard.

That is why the Knicks have always kept an eye on Hornets point guard Terry Rozier and young Pelicans playmaker Lonzo Ball (who would probably be more of a summer transaction).

To be clear, the Knicks are not looking to move Quickley at this point — at least not that we know of. He's proven to be quite a steal for New York, but as the report above states, he does not appear to be the floor general the Knicks require.

Currently, the starting point guard role belongs to veteran Elfrid Payton. He's been having a solid season, but he's not exactly the type of guard that can help lead the Knicks deep into the playoffs. Ball or Rozier certainly fit the bill, though, and could help them move from a fringe playoff team into a real contender.
