When the New York Knicks were chasing Kevin Durant in free agency in 2019, they apparently pitched pairing him up with then Charlotte Hornets All-Star Kemba Walker.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Walker was interested in teaming up with Durant when the Knicks were capable of signing two max contract players on its roster. New York initially tried to bring in Kyrie Irving and KD together, but when the former made it clear he wanted to go to Brooklyn, the franchise then shifted their focus on getting Cardiac Kemba to form a Dynamic Duo with the latter.

The Post has learned the Knicks, amid their chase for Durant, were told emphatically Irving was not changing his mind about Brooklyn.

As a fallback, former Knicks president Steve Mills and current GM Scott Perry turned their sights on trying to get Walker to agree to play with KD. In fact, Durant’s camp asked Knicks management what other star it could get to pair with Durant.

For what it's worth, Kemba Walker said in his introductory presser with the Knicks that he was close to joining the team during the 2019 free agency. Clearly, though, Kevin Durant's decision to sign with the Nets instead thwarted that and Kemba ended up going to the Boston Celtics.

Fortunately for Walker, he gets to pair up with another All-Star forward in Julius Randle with the Knicks this time around.
