With the 2017 NBA Draft nearing closer, the Los Angeles Lakers are weighing the options in front of them at the second overall selection.

According to Chad Ford of ESPN, this includes discussing potentially moving down a couple of spots with the Phoenix Suns, who hold the fourth overall pick in the draft.

The Lakers held internal discussions about trading back two spots to No. 4 if the Suns were to offer them a 2018 first-round pick. … The Lakers believe that Ball or Jackson might be available at the No. 4 spot. If not, the Lakers are still very high on [De’Aaron] Fox and [Jayson] Tatum, and believe that securing an additional prospect might be worth dropping two spots in the draft.

The Lakers are considering all the scenarios that could see them trade out of the second spot entirely if the right deal presents itself prior or during the draft. Their new management, under Magic Johnson, is looking for any way possible to help improve the team out of their longest playoff drought in franchise history with four consecutive losing seasons.

Although the Lakers may trade down from their second overall pick, the organization could stay put at the spot and select from a plethora a talent from the likes of UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball, Washington point guard Markelle Fultz, Kansas swingman Josh Jackson, and Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox.

The Lakers have already worked out each of these players over the last several days. Jackson has held two sessions with the team, and Ball is set to go through his second workout on Friday at an undisclosed location in Los Angeles.

With the draft still several days away, it should provide them enough time to make a sound decision with the second overall selection.
