Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis tried to give it a go in Game 6 against the Phoenix Suns after missing Game 5 with his groin injury. Despite his valiant effort, Davis didn't last long, managing just five minutes of action before leaving the game for good. Those five minutes would be his last of the season as the Lakers suffered a 113-100 loss to go out in the first round.

Davis had a simple reaction to reaggravating his groin issue:

That about sums it up.

With a gimpy Davis not himself and then leaving after five minutes, the Lakers were shell-shocked to start Game 6. The Suns led by 22 points after the first quarter and by as many as 29 early in the second quarter. Los Angeles made a run in the second half, but the margin was too much to make up.

It was a difficult season for Davis and the Lakers as they tried to repeat as champions. Davis and LeBron James both missed extended time in the regular season, and they weren't healthy against Phoenix. While it looked like Los Angeles was going to win the series after going up 2-1, Davis' groin injury in Game 4 totally nuked their chances. The Suns dominated the rest of the series.

Davis now needs to take some time off and get healthy. It was a grueling stretch of basketball from the bubble through now, so the time off should help him be fresh for next season. The Lakers will look to retool their roster around LeBron and AD and come back stronger next season. While James is getting up there in age, we know he can still dominate when healthy, even if he has lost a step.

The Lakers will be back, and don't be surprised if they win it all in 2022.
