Amidst a COVID-19 outbreak that has affected multiple members of the Los Angeles Lakers team, staff, and traveling party, the Lakers did get some good news on Anthony Davis ahead of their road matchup with the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.
Davis, who has missed the past two games, with left knee soreness, will start vs. Dallas, head coach Frank Vogel said in his pre-game media availability.
On Friday — the morning after an oddly lethargic performance in the team's uninspired loss to the Memphis Grizzlies — Davis woke up with knee discomfort. Vogel said Davis couldn't attribute the pain to any specific play. AD was listed as questionable for Friday's game vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder and ruled out shortly before tip-off.
Afterward, Vogel said the Lakers' medical staff was being extra-cautious with the All-Star big-man, as they hadn't yet determined what was causing the soreness. Upon return to Los Angeles on Saturday, Davis underwent imaging that showed no structural damage.
AD was again listed as questionable for Sunday's home game vs. the Orlando Magic but sat out. Led by LeBron James, the Lakers (15-13) rolled to a 106-94 win at Staples Center. Davis has not spoken to the media since Thursday night.

The left knee soreness was the eighth different ailment for which AD has been listed on the team's injury report in the 2021-22 season. However, he had only missed one game prior to Friday (due to a fever).
Los Angeles could certainly always use Davis' body, but especially on Wednesday. Dwight Howard, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Malik Monk are in the league's health and safety protocols, while Kendrick Nunn (bone bruise) and Trevor Ariza (ankle surgery) remain out.
Davis is averaging 24.0 points and 10.2 rebounds on 52.3% shooting this season.
