ESPN is publishing a special 96-page commemorative magazine issue devoted to the life of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.

The network stopped publishing ESPN the Magazine in September, though they are set to release several commemorative issues throughout the year.

The Kobe story will feature anecdotes, essays and photographs of the late Lakers superstar. It’s slated to hit newsstands on Friday:

“We specifically limited this to be a test case to do the work, see how the process goes and see if this makes sense,” ESPN VP/Storytelling & Special Projects Alison Overholt said.

The passing of Bryant is going to take a long time to get over. Lakers players were very emotional last Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers at Staples Center during their tribute to Kobe.

Los Angeles has the best record in the Western Conference. However, nothing would make this season more special than to see LeBron James and Anthony Davis lead the Lakers to the championship. Both LeBron and Davis were close with Bryant, so it’s not a stretch to say they are going to dedicate the rest of the season to the Purple and Gold icon.

Kobe Bryant is arguably the greatest player to ever play for the Lakers, and it is certain the team will do everything to honor and continue his legacy this season and beyond.
