With the Los Angeles Lakers emerging as one of the hottest free agent destinations following their recent acquisition of Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans, the biggest names such as Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving have been linked to a move to Hollywood this summer.
However, despite their recent success in the trade market, ESPN analyst Jalen Rose seems adamant that the Lakers will ultimately strike out with both Leonard and Irving.
Recently, Davis waived his trade kicker to give the Lakers more salary cap room. This, coupled with the contract-dumping trade they struck with the Washington Wizards, allowed L.A. to successfully clear $32 million worth of cap space for the offseason.
However, despite their clever maneuvering, Rose believes that the Lakers chances of landing either Kawhi or Kyrie remain slim to none. Leonard is reportedly seriously considering re-signing with his current team, the Toronto Raptors, while Irving has been heavily linked with a move to the Brooklyn Nets.
In line with this, Rose thinks that the Lakers will be better off pursuing other names on the market. The good news here is that there is no shortage of superstar free agents available, and guys like Brooklyn Nets All-Star point guard D'Angelo Russell and more recently, Philadelphia 76ers swingman Jimmy Butler have been rumored to have shown some interest in making a move to L.A.
At the end of the day, the Lakers should have little trouble in recruiting a third star behind Davis and LeBron James, so it's just a matter of time before Los Angeles finally completes their star-studded roster heading into the new season.
