More and more Los Angeles Lakers are getting involved in social issues.

This time it's JR Smith taking a shot at Donald Trump and how important his voice is compared to athletes in today's landscape.

Taking to Twitter, Smith noted how athletes speaking out on social issues seem to hold more weight than the opinion of President Trump:

It’s really gotten to the point where the voice of an athlete is more important an effective than the president… #ijs think about the most respected sports figures an let them do one thing inappropriate to looks of society a pose to the actual actions of this “President”

This comment came after the Lakers guard went on a rant about Congress' lack of a COVID-19 testing plan, all while he has been getting tested daily in the NBA bubble.

Smith's point here is two-fold. While to some (most notably his base) Trump's views on things are the be-all, end-all, to a large portion of the country the voice of those in sports and other entertainment fields hold more weight than Trump's. On the flip side, Smith points out how if a player makes a mistake they are ostracized for it, while  many of Trump's mistakes have been pushed under the rug.

While the voice of athletes have become much more respected and vocal over the past few months, now the key for them is keeping the momentum going in order to create real change. Many, including Lakers star LeBron James, have been focused on doing just that while in the NBA bubble. How effective their actions will be have yet to be seen, but they have started a movement and conversations that look to be fundamental in creating real change in the country.
