Could Kawhi Leonard leave the Toronto Raptors immediately after winning an NBA championship with the franchise? Former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins didn't think so, but now, he appears to be changing his tune. Originally stating that Leonard would re-sign in Toronto, Perkins now thinks there is a chance that the two-time Finals MVP signs with the Los Angeles Lakers:

Leonard is set to meet with the Lakers on Monday.

Of course, the Lakers are not the only LA team interested in Leonard, as the Clippers have long been mentioned as a potential landing spot for the 28-year-old, and the general consensus for some time has actually been that Leonard would sign with the Clips this summer.

But now, with the purple and gold having both LeBron James and Anthony Davis in tow, they appear to be emerging as a real threat to sign Leonard.

Leonard is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which he played 60 games and averaged 26.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals over 34 minutes per game while shooting 49.6 percent from the floor, 37.1 percent from three-point range and 85.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Riverside, Ca. native, who played his collegiate basketball at San Diego State, was originally selected by the Indiana Pacers in the first round (15th pick overall) of the 2011 NBA Draft, but he was immediately traded to the San Antonio Spurs for George Hill.

Leonard went on to spend the first seven years of his career with the Spurs, winning a championship in 2014. However, due to a disconnect between Leonard and the Spurs organization concerning his quad injury last year, he demanded a trade and was dealt to the Raptors last summer.
