Former Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant's new show Detail, on ESPN + seems to be a hit. In it Bryant breaks down the X's and O's of the game on a deeper level, trying to help the casual basketball fan better understand the game.

Some are mad at Bryant and his show, thinking that it gives some players a curse. To that idea, Kobe had a strongly worded response.

Bryant was asked by the New York Times if Micael Jordan did a film breakdown of him when he was younger, would he watch it?

“No, I would ignore everything Michael Jordan has to say. (laughing) Of course I would watch it. I think simple-minded people tend to give simple-minded answers. The Detail Curse thing about getting into players’ heads too much is about simple-minded people who don’t understand what film study is. When you’re a player you watch film to find advantages, so you look for little areas in which you can take advantage of teams. Some of these fans that say that stuff are just idiots.”

The example that most fans give of this new curse is Jayson Tatum, who said he became obsessed with the breakdown that Bryant provided of him.

“I’ve probably watched it like 25 times already,” Tatum said in advance of Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, “so yeah it was very helpful information.”

After the show aired, Tatum had his two worst games of the series, both ending in losses to the Cleveland Cavaliers. So is it a curse that Kobe Bryant is putting on these guys? Or is it just a coincidence that Tatum performed poorly in the games?
