Ever since the beginning of his NBA career in 2003, current Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has taken the whole league by storm. Fast forward to today, James is nearing Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan in one category.

Through his 15-year career, James has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game on 50.4 percent field goal shooting and a 27.7 PER. This, of course, is on top of his numerous accolades and awards as one of the best ever to play this game.

Now in his 16th year, James has a chance to climb even higher on the NBA’s record books. According to Ben Rohrbach of Yahoo Sports, it may not be long before The King surpasses Chamberlain and Jordan in the career scoring list.

James enters his 16th season in seventh place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, with 31,038 points. Outscoring Dirk by 149 points would allow him to overtake the German and, considering James has managed that in each of the last 13 seasons, that seems like a solid bet. (Unless Dirk found a drastically different supplement regimen this summer, that is.) James needs 381 points to catch Wilt Chamberlain, currently sitting fifth, and 1,254 points to reach Michael Jordan in fourth.

Considering that he has never scored less than 1654 points in a season and played in an astounding average of 76 games every season, it seems that it’s a foregone conclusion that James can reach this milestone.

Still, if you ask him what is more important – personal achievements or a championship – he’d most probably choose the latter. As he enters his first season with the Purple and Gold, LeBron James will look to lead them back into title contention and rekindle the fire that once made the Lakers one of the most storied franchises ever.
