A lot has already been said or written about the Los Angeles Lakers' spacing issues. They still rank dead last in the entire NBA in made threes per game, which is a huge no-no for a LeBron James-led team. Even with James' improved jump shot over the years, The King's bread and butter remains his rampaging attacks towards the rim, which, in fact, ascend towards another level when he shares the floor with Russell Westbrook.

Despite the well-documented on-court fit issues between James and Westbrook, the two still allow the Lakers to put pressure on the rim like no other team. When James and Westbrook play together, the Lakers take 46 percent of their shots at the rim – 15 percentage points better than the league average, according to Cleaning the Glass (via Sean Keane of Yardbarker) as mentioned in the Dunc'd On Basketball NBA Podcast.

Thus, it's not that big a surprise to see the Lakers outscore opponents by 8.7 points per 100 possessions when LeBron James and Russell Westbrook share the floor, according to NBA Stats. For reference, the Lakers have a negative net rating, at -0.6, on the season.

Simply put, Westbrook's move to the bench has worked as well as it could have for the Lakers. For all of the concerns regarding the former MVP's ego, he has continued to give it his all even in a role he's unfamiliar with. The Lakers may still be 22-25 at the time of writing, and Westbrook may still not be worth his exorbitant salary for the year, but it's evident that they are making the most out of this suboptimal roster.

And who knows, perhaps Russell Westbrook could add to his trophy case with a Sixth Man of the Year award win at season's end?
