While Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James may be one of the most socially-inclined athletes today, he is not nearly as outspoken — and controversial — as former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Nonetheless, James has voiced out his full support of the embattled NFL player and his recent Nike ad.

Many believe that Kaepernick was pushed out of the NFL because of his controversial actions in protesting the national anthem. However, despite the polarizing nature of his situation, Nike has still decided to sign the 30-year-old as the face of their newest ad campaign.

The ad holds a very strong message, which pertains to Kaepernick's unwavering conviction. James approves of the message and has publicly backed his fellow athlete.

LeBron's message was short, but carries a lot of meaning. The three-time NBA champion used the power of emojis to presumably commend Kaepernick for speaking out, as well as portraying his version of the black power salute.

James is no stranger to socio-political controversies himself, as he recently had a highly-publicized spat against none other than U.S. President Donald Trump.

Both James and Kaepernick are athletes that are not afraid to use their mainstream popularity to speak about their convictions. Like many other Americans, they both believe that tyranny and oppression remain strong throughout the nation. Neither of them have been known to hold back in the past, and it does not appear that they have any intentions of doing so now, or in the future.
