The Los Angeles Lakers have been grinding without LeBron James and Anthony Davis. They might not have to grind all that much longer.

James hinted at their return to the floor with an Instagram post Thursday afternoon, saying “the weather is changing soon and it predicts a thunderstorm is coming.”

Sounds like something of a warning to the rest of the NBA:

Davis has been out since the middle of February after sustaining a calf strain and re-aggravation of his right Achilles tendon. He was cleared to resume basketball activities at the end of March, though the Lakers never explicitly gave a timeline for his return. The team has exhibited an abundance of caution, which only makes sense given Davis' injury history.

LeBron, meanwhile, has been out since suffering a high ankle sprain against the Atlanta Hawks on March 21. He was expected to miss anywhere between 3-5 weeks, though this post would seem to suggest James could return on the earlier side of that timeline.

The Lakers have just been hanging on by a thread without their MVP candidates. Los Angeles struggled a bit heading into the All-Star break following Davis' injury, then lost three straight after James went down.

But the Lakers have stayed the course, winning four of their last six since that three-game losing streak and getting contributions from everyone on the roster.

It will take a total team effort to stay in the middle of the Western Conference picture, at least for the time being. That said, James and Davis could both be nearing a return.
