The NBA league office has fined Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton for his post-game comments on the officiating after a 143-142 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night.

Walton was irate after looking at the box score and seeing his team had 74 points in the paint (compared to the Spurs' 50) and somehow only warranted 26 trips to the line, while San Antonio went to the foul line 38 times.

The third-year head coach claimed he was going to “save my money” but couldn't keep quiet any longer, darting shots at how the game was officiated during Saturday's loss to the Houston Rockets.

“Watch the play where I got a technical foul,” said Walton. “Watch what happened to LeBron James’ arm. It’s the same thing that James Harden and Chris Paul shot 30 free throws on us the night before. … We are scoring 70 points a night. In the paint.”

Luke Walton alluded to one of his most physical guards, Josh Hart, and the lack of calls he received throughout his 40-minute stint on the court, claiming his players are often not respected due to their young age and lack of NBA experience.

“To me it doesn’t matter, I know they’re young, but if we’re gonna play a certain way — let’s not reward people for flopping 30 feet from the hole on plays that have nothing to do with that possession and then not reward players that are physically going to the basket and getting hit. It’s not right.”

The Lakers are now 0-3, and will have their first chance at getting the proverbial monkey off their back on Wednesday on the road against the Phoenix Suns before coming back home to face the undefeated Denver Nuggets at the Staples Center.
