With the Los Angeles Lakers currently in ninth place in the Western Conference, it's time for the front office to call in the big guns. Although he's no longer the head coach, it sounds like Phil Jackson has found a role with this team. Well, sort of.

According to The Athletic, Phil Jackson “has been in frequent contact with (Jeanie) Buss about team matters all season long. The complicated and often uncomfortable dynamics surrounding the (Russell) Westbrook situation, in particular, are known to have drawn his interest.” For that reason, Jackson has been involved as a consultant for the Lakers throughout the season.

It makes sense why the Lakers would want to hear from Phil Jackson. Westbrook has basically fallen off the face of the earth in terms of production and nobody is sure why that's the case. Jackson coached multiple superstars throughout his career and was able to get the best out of all of them. Even Dennis Rodman, who frequently had off-the-court issues throughout his career.

For now, Jackson is working an unofficial role with the Lakers, as “it's unclear if Jackson might take on any kind of formal role in the future,” per The Athletic. It doesn't seem like Phil Jackson is looking to return to a coaching job anytime soon. Instead, he seems comfortable offering advice to Los Angeles and Russell Westbrook.

Hopefully, his experience starts rubbing off on the Lakers soon, as Los Angeles is running out of time. They're in line to participate in the play-in game at the end of the season, which isn't an ideal situation for this organization. Although he's 37-years old, LeBron James might have to take matters into his own hands and will his team to the playoffs.
