LeBron James is receiving widespread praise for opening the I Promise School in his hometown, and for good reason. The love is coming from teammates, opponents, coaches, fans, and now, even a former president and first lady.

Michelle Obama took to Twitter to recognize LeBron's charitable efforts on behalf of herself and her husband, President Barack Obama. It's truly remarkable just how much of an impact James is having in the Akron community. First Lady Obama describes James as a role model.

James' impact on America transcends what he does on the basketball court.

It's no surprise that the world is speaking glowingly of James after his incredible commitment to the at-risk youth in Akron. People often want to see their politics and sports separated, but James is showing that professional athletes can — and should — use their platform for good.

Obviously, not every athlete has the means and influence that James does, but many could learn from James' example.

James has always tried to remain at the forefront of charitable work and working to address social issues in America. Although he has received his fair share of criticism for his political views, anyone who attempts to criticize him for his latest efforts is just plain wrong.

LeBron was once lectured by a talking head that he should just, “shut up and dribble.” We can all be thankful that James didn't take that advice.
