Los Angeles Lakers veteran point guard Rajon Rondo logged only 15 minutes of action off the bench on Friday, as he helped his side to a 123-113 victory against one of his former teams, the New Orleans Pelicans. Despite his limited run, however, the four-time All-Star was still able to make a bit of history, as he moved up in the leader board of the league's all-time assists list.

Rondo displaced retired five-time All-Star Tim Hardaway for the 17th spot in this prestigious list. Rondo dished out five dimes against the Pelicans, which now brings up his tally to 7,096 career assists — an achievement that is certainly nothing short of amazing. The former NBA champ finished the contest with just two points, though, along with five rebounds as part of the team's second unit.

This has been the story of the season for Rondo, as he has functioned as L.A.'s backup point guard. The 33-year-old has made only one start all season long, and is currently averaging 7.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.0 steals, while also connecting on 1.0 3-pointers in 21.0 minutes per contest.

At this moment, Rondo's role with the Lakers appears to be in danger of diminishing even further, with rumors circulating about the team currently in the market for another point guard. There has been no concrete developments of yet, but should this come to fruition, Rajon Rondo might just see himself fall further down the pecking order in the near future.
