New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis shocked the world when he requested the team to trade him halfway into the season. The All-Star forward made this request via his agent, Rich Paul.

The Pelicans front office quickly sought the help of NBA officials to investigate any tampering violation committed by Davis and Paul. As per league rules, an NBA player isn't allowed to make trade discussions public, even if it's done through his agent.

The league has decided to fine Davis and Paul $50,000 for violating the anti-tampering rule.

However, according to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul knew he could get fined right from the beginning, but still decided to go public with his client's trade request.

After Paul privately told Demps on Friday that his client wouldn't sign a contract extension with the Pelicans and wanted a trade, Paul publicly declared it on Monday — with full knowledge that he'd have to pay a $50,000 fine on behalf of his client.

According to reports, Davis' trade request could've been handled quietly. He could have waited until the offseason and decline the supermax contract that the Pelicans will offer. However, his camp decided to go public to give the Los Angeles Lakers a head start heading into the trade deadline next week.

Paul's other client, LeBron James is playing for the Lakers, and they want to pair him with Davis.

It is unclear to this point if any deal will be done, as reports have also circulated that the Pelicans are not entertaining any trade offers from the Lakers.
