Over the past couple of days, ex-Los Angeles Lakers teammates Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant fired jabs at each other for failing to win more championships. The Black Mamba said that he would've won 12 rings if Shaq wasn't lazy. Before the two cleared the air, it looked like O'Neal was a bit upset about Bryant's comments.
Shaq responded to Kobe's comments by saying that they would've won more titles if the latter just passed the ball more. The three-time Finals MVP added that “You don't get statues by not working hard.” Moreover, O'Neal had this to say before he and Bryant ‘patched things up' on Twitter.
Kobe and Shaq had one of the most controversial feuds in the history of the NBA. Although they were able to lead the Lakers to three straight championships from 2000-2002, it was also clear during that span that they didn't like each other. Then, things blew up when they lost to the Detroit Pistons in the 2004 NBA Finals. O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat in the summer of that year, and that marked the end of the Purple and Gold's dynasty.
Both individuals decided to bury the hatchet a couple of years later, and they ended up becoming good friends.
O'Neal and Bryant have already retired from the NBA, yet they remain as relevant figures in the league. They probably had no intentions of bringing up what happened in the past and it was wise for them to control the situation before it could get worse.
