The Los Angeles Lakers appear not ready to name a new head coach who will replace Luke Walton after he was let go following a disappointing campaign this season. The Lakers are expected to sit down with more candidates in the coming days. And according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, team advisor Kurt Rambis is heavily involved in the search for the team's new head coach. Woj added that Rambis is becoming a “powerful voice” in their basketball operations.

Lakers legend Magic Johnson was previously at the helm of the basketball operations of the franchise, but he surprisingly stepped down as president after the regular season. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka initially led the coaching search, which focused on Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams.

The Lakers looked on the verge of hiring Lue as their head coach after Williams signed with the Phoenix Suns. However, the two parties failed to reach a deal after disagreeing on some terms of the partnership. The Lakers offered a three-year deal, but Lue and his camp wanted a five-year contract.

According to Nick Wright of Fox Sports, the Buss family and Pelinka were ready to go all in on Lue. However, Rambis and his wife, Linda, was against the idea and convinced their front office to hold off on a deal. It remains to be seen whether or not the Lakers will revisit talks with Lue in the coming weeks.
