Tyronn Lue celebrated his 42nd birthday last week with a Los Angeles Lakers-themed cake, according to TMZ.

The Lakers are widely expected to hire Lue as their next head coach since the Phoenix Suns hired Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams.

Lue coached Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James on the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons. Lue also played for the Lakers back in the day. He was part of the 2001 team which won the championship over Allen Iverson and the Sixers in five games.

Lue and James won the 2016 title over the Golden State Warriors in seven games. With the Cavs, Lue went 128-83 during the regular season and 41-20 in the postseason.

The Lakers haven't made the playoffs since 2013. Magic Johnson stepped down from his president role during an impromptu press conference at Staples Center. No one inside the organization saw the move coming.

This is a big summer for the Purple and Gold. They are expected to try and trade for New Orleans Pelicans star big man Anthony Davis again. LA also has cap space to sign a star free agent to pair next to LeBron. Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker and Jimmy Butler are all free agents this offseason.

At this point, Lue to the Lakers appears to be a done deal.
