The NBA rumor mill is heating up as the Los Angeles Lakers seem to be a serious contender to acquire Kyrie Irving. Even so, there are reports that Irving and Kevin Durant are still interested to play alongside each other. With that in mind, it sounds like the Lakers are in play for a potentially monster trade.

According to Brian Windhorst, rumblings around the league believe Los Angeles “would potentially have a package that you could trade for both of them.” If that's true, then perhaps the Lakers are negotiating a massive deal to bring in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

If any franchise is going to make a move like that, it's LA. This organization is always seeking to win a title and this is the type of move fans hope for them to make. This is strictly speculation for now, but the fact Windhorst has heard executives around the league talking about means there is at least some smoke forming in the rumor mill. It'll be incredibly difficult for the Lakers to pull off, but the rumors are floating around regardless.

For this to happen, Los Angeles would have to formulate a trade package big enough to entice the Brooklyn Nets. The Lakers might have to offer something like, ” Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and future draft picks,” per RealGM. Considering Westbrook isn't viewed highly in the NBA right now, LA would have to make up for it by offering Davis and multiple draft picks.

That would be a massive haul for the Nets, although, they'd be left with Russell Westbrook and Ben Simmons playing alongside each other. That's not a great pairing, so we'll see if the Lakers can pull off a big trade.
