Report: Lakers’ next free agent target after Montrezl Harrell
The Lakers lost Dwight Howard to the Philadelphia 76ers. While they are after Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka and could always bring back DeMarcus Cousins, it appears Los Angeles general manager Rob Pelinka is keeping his options open.
The Lakers also seek one more big man, league sources say, but they face much tougher financial constraints in the chase for Gasol after signing Montrezl Harrell away from the Clippers and re-signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

The Lakers signed Cousins in the summer of 2019, but he tore his left ACL while playing in a pick-up game in Las Vegas and missed the entire 2019-20 season. That opened the door for Howard, who did his job well for the Purple and Gold as a backup big man. Eventually, he won his first NBA title after LA defeated the Miami Heat in the 2020 Finals in six games at Walt Disney World.
Los Angeles would obviously love to get Gasol, a former All-Star and Defensive Player of the Year. Ibaka, meanwhile, has been linked with the Toronto Raptors and Brooklyn Nets, who have two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant.
Ibaka and KD were teammates for many years on the Oklahoma City Thunder and have remained close friends through the years.
While it’s unknown who the Lakers are going to sign, Anthony Davis is expected to re-sign with the franchise any day now. The Chicago native’s first season in Los Angeles was a success. He won his first NBA championship and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
