Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James continues to do great things off the court. Just recently, on his HBO television program entitled “The Shop,” James hosted California governor Gavin Newsom in what turned out to be an iconic moment for college athletics.

This wasn't just your typical politician hosting, as Newsom came to the show to sign an actual bill, which will allow college athletes to earn money while playing as amateurs:

Governor Newsom actually signed the bill during the program, which was loudly applauded by everyone in attendance. As the good governor said, this bill will not only have a significant effect on college athletics in California, but it should also serve as an impetus for other states to follow suit.

LeBron James pretty much hit the nail on the head with his statement following the monumental event. According to LeBron, moments like these are exactly why he and his camp decided to come up with this program. Obviously, their decision has and continues to pay dividends.

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has also been championing this bill for a while, and he's excited for the signing:

There have been endless debates pertaining to how the NCAA should handle their college athletes. One of the hottest topics involves young players' potential earnings during their college stints. Right now, some prospects decide to play overseas — where they are able to make legitimate money while playing basketball — instead of going to college in the United States. Hopefully, Governor Newsom's new bill here is a real step in the right direction for college athletes.
