The last time we saw Lance Stephenson in the NBA was during the 2018-19 campaign with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite being removed from the big league for more than two seasons now, the 31-year-old veteran's dream to return to the NBA still remains very much alive. Just recently, Stephenson took a significant step towards a potential return to the league.

Lance Stephenson has been included in the training camp roster of the Grand Rapids Gold ahead of the 2021-22 season. The Gold are the NBA G League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets, and while it might be a remote possibility at this point, we cannot completely rule out Stephenson being called up by the Nuggets at some point in the season.

The most important thing here for Stephenson is that he's taking the right steps towards a potential return to the NBA. After spending the 2019-20 season with Chinese Basketball Association outfit Liaoning Flying Leopards, the 6-foot-6 swingman was selected 13th overall by Grand Rapids in the 2021 NBA G League Draft. He's clearly done enough to earn a spot for training camp, and he will now hope to make the cut for the final roster.

With the Gold, Stephenson will be playing alongside former Philadelphia 76ers guard Nik Stauskas, and Nuggets two-way player Petr Cornelie. The team is coached by former NBA champ Jason Terry.
