Coaching legend Larry Brown wants to take on a fresh challenge at the age of 76.

According to Richard Johnson of Page Six, Brown is advising those closest to him that he would like to take the helm of the East Hampton High School varsity team.

The Brooklyn native resides in East Hampton currently and it seems that he wants to take on a job that involves less travel than a position in the NBA or college basketball.

“He always said he wanted to end his career coaching high school basketball. I think it’s tremendous,” Peter Vecsey of The Post told Johnson.

Those involved with the school are understandably keen. Joseph Vasile-Cozzo, who works as the director of physical education, wants to sit down to discuss the proposition with Brown.

“We are excited. We would love to have him,” Vasile-Cozzo said. “If he is interested, there is no interview needed.”

The school recently lost another highly successful basketball coach after the passing of Ed Petrie. Brown is seemingly keen to continue Petrie's successful legacy at the school and is of course more than qualified.

Brown won an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons and an NCAA title with the University Of Kansas. His most recent position was with Southern Methodist University in Texas but he left his post in July.

Compared to other opportunities that have been presented to Brown, the pay is meagre. Usually, a head coach at the school would be paid around $6000 to $8000 and would be an extra-curricular extension to their already existing role as a teacher. Money clearly isn’t the motivation for Brown.

It would be interesting to see the famous coach take on the challenge of coaching high school basketball. The East Hampton area would surely be pleased to see Larry Brown take on the now vacant role.
