LCK Spring Split Schedule: When does LCK 2022 start?

As League of Legends pro play gears up for another season in 2022, the best of the best in Korea will soon return to the playing stage. And that means fans won't have to wait too long now until they can witness iconic players like Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok from T1 and Heo “ShowMaker” Su from defending champions Damwon Gaming (DWG) duke it out again for the LCK trophy. So, here's when the LCK Spring Split will begin this January, the rest of the schedule, and the teams we'll be watching out for.

After a crazy 2021 off-season that saw huge roster moves going around, legendary mid laner Faker has signed a contract extension for long-time team T1. Moreover, this 2022 marks a full decade of playing with the org that won the World Championship thrice and the LCK title nine times—with 10 years with T1, can Faker claim 10 LCK trophies, too?

On the other hand, LCK 2021 Spring and Summer champions Damwon lost some strong players in Kim “Khan” Dong-ha and Jang “Ghost” Yong-jun. They did manage to keep their superstar mid-jungle duo, ShowMaker and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, who were also named as the Best Players of the Year for their respective positions at the 2021 LCK Awards. Still, it will be interesting to see how new faces mesh with the strong core of DWG, and whether they can maintain their dominance in the region.

However, virtually every team in Korea from the top to the bottom of the table underwent some sort of roster change. As such, the LCK Spring Split will be a formidable testing ground for teams to find their footing, build synergy, and even get ahead of the competition—with domestic and international titles the big ambition for everyone to play for.

Competitive League of Legends will be starting up again in Korea by January 12, 2022. That's exactly as the clock strikes midnight PST, but it'll be early morning for those in Eastern Time. The LCK regular season will run for nine weeks, with the last games scheduled for March 16 to 20, 2022.

Just like the previous years, the league will still follow a best-of-three format for each matchup in a double round robin. For fans who want to catch all the action, make sure to clear up your Wednesdays to Sundays, because two series two are scheduled to take place per day. The first day of the competition is already looking spicy. The inaugural match features Liiv SANDBox, who acquired a mid-to-top lane role-swapping Kim “Dove” Jaeyoon from KT Rolster, up against DRX and new bot laners Kim “Deft” Hyeokgyu and Jo “BeryL” Geonhee from Hanwha Life and Damwon, respectively. Then, later in the day, Faker and T1 will face off against a former teammate—Park “Teddy” Jin-seong, one of the region's top ADCs—who had transferred to Kwangdong Freecs (formerly known as Afreeca Freecs).

For fans of the defending champs, DWG has two series scheduled for the LCK opening week, against KT and Gen.G. It'll be a clash of strong teams for sure, and fans will be excited to see whether the titleholders can continue to protect their throne domestically. After all, they came close but ultimately failed to defend the crown at the 2021 World Championships. With a new-look Gen.G featuring veteran marksman Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and rising mid star Jung “Chovy” Ji-hun, it's a matter of whether the ‘superteam' synergizes well on stage from the get-go or experiences some growing pains.
