Right before the start of the 2020 season, running back Leonard Fournette signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The star was not much of a factor in Week 1, though, recording just five carries for five yards (and one reception for 14 yards).

That obviously begs the question, will Fournette be getting more carries as the season goes on?

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians says that Fournette is “working hard” to earn more snaps.

“He’s only been here about 10 or 12 days, so I thought he did OK with what he had,” coach Bruce Arians said of Fournette’s performance against the Saints. “He’s learning every single word. If [his role] increases, it increases. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. He’s working hard to get some more snaps.”

Fournette did not get much playing time in Week 1. With that playing time, he did not do much in the production category. However, it is important to remember he has not been with Tampa Bay for very long. Due to that, there is bound to be a learning curve. Fournette will need time to get adjusted to his new teammates, the new schemes and his new role.

There is some good news on that front though. It appears the running back is putting in the work.

Arians seemed very complimentary of the running back. And seems to believe that the performance against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1 was more to do with his short time with the team over anything else.

The head coach also pointed out that Fournette is “learning every single word” and is working hard to get snaps. That definitely points in a positive sign for the running back.

However, at the same time Arians promised nothing. The head coach made it clear that anything could happen, saying “If [his role] increases, it increases. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.”

We'll have to wait and see just how much playing time Fournette gets in the coming weeks. What we do know though is, he's working hard to get on the field more.
