Lionel Messi remains one of the most prolific soccer stars in the world. Messi recently finished his first season with French tycoons PSG after previously spending his entire career in Spain with FC Barcelona. The results weren't much different, as Messi helped PSG finish first in France's Ligue 1.

Lionel Messi signed a two-year deal with PSG after his move from Barcelona that is set to expire after the 2022-23 season. But ever since his move to France, rumors have swirled that Messi could be looking to make a move to the MLS once his current contract expires.

Inter Miami's Chief Business Officer Xavier Asensi added fuel to the fire in a recent interview with El Mundo Deportivo, stating that his club is interested in pursuing Messi. Here's what Asensi had to say when asked if he was looking to potentially bring Lionel Messi to Miami:

“Yes, with some caveats. You can't compare Leo Messi with any other player; he's different. Having said that, what we're looking for is to be the reference point for football in the U.S., and to do that, the important thing is the players and the show that you can put on. To do so, you need the best players, and having them is a genuine objective at this club. In terms of Leo Messi, there's him and then there's everyone else.” – Xavier Asensi, ESPN

Lionel Messi joining the MLS would be huge. Messi is one of the most recognizable sports stars in the world, and his presence in the MLS would help the league grow exponentially. Messi appears to have some interest in joining the MLS, and now he has a club that would be willing to add him. There's still a long way to go, but Messi to the MLS could become very real, very soon.
