The Detroit Lions have brought in linebacker Manti Te'o for a visit, and a potential signing opportunity, according to a news report about the matter.

NBC Sports is reporting that the former Notre Dame star is looking into different options and different ways to get a second chance to show his worth from last season.

Te'o spent most of last season sidelined with injuries, which could explain — at least partially — why he's on free agent status now.

However, it's also fair to say that he didn't really work out too well as a first-round pick for the Chargers.

He really came into his own with the Saints, though, where he racked up 62 tackles and three passes defended while playing in all 16 games in 2017. He started 10.

Manti Te’o is at his best as an interior linebacker. Detroit still has Jarrad Davis there, and he isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

His play has been up and down since he was acquired in the first round of the 2017 draft, but he really improved last year and brings the leadership and energy Detroit is looking for at that position. And he has the trust of head coach Matt Patricia, a former linebackers coach who has built his defense around the linebacker play.

With that said, it would be wise to observe how injuries took their toll last year, limiting Manti Te’o to two starts and just five games overall, and how his value as a player could fluctuate depending on how many games he plays compared to his asking price.
