Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia relied heavily on his young talent in his first season with the team. He continues to use running back Kerryon Johnson and wide receiver Kenny Golladay when discussing football outside of the office.

Patricia recently made an appearance at a coaching clinic. According to Chris Burke of The Athletic, he used film of Johnson to explain the importance of having a talented back:

“We can’t give them the ball back,” he says. “We’ve got to be able to block, be able to get to our holes and make people miss. You’ve got to run the ball and chew the clock. You’ve got to control the game.”

Patricia also referenced Golladay's playmaking ability.

“Great route?” Patricia asks of the TD reception. “No. Covered? Yeah. Concentration? Absolutely. Catching the football. The concentration of catching the football… Good football, good fundamentals. That’ll help you win.”

It is easy to see why Matt Patricia used Johnson and Golladay's film to help him explain his points. Both players emerged as promising, young stars for the Lions last season. He is looking forward to breaking down their game tape for years to come.

Detroit selected Kerryon Johnson in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. It was not long before he emerged as the team's workhorse thanks to his versatile skill set in the backfield. He finished the 2018 campaign with 641 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns while tacking on 32 receptions for 213 receiving yards, and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Kenny Golladay was finally able to fully establish himself as the Lions' No. 1 option in the passing game. The 25-year-old hauled in 70 receptions for 1,063 yards and five touchdowns last season. It is safe to assume he will see an increase in targets in 2019.
