After the Green Bay Packers released Mike Daniels he had plenty of choices on what team to play for next, but he picked the Detroit Lions and it was for one simple reason, Matt Patricia. According to Daniels, he had 13 teams that contacted him to play for their team and mulled over a few offers before deciding to play in the Motor City.

When asked by reporters why he picked the Lions he said that the choice was easy because of the genius that is Patricia.

“Coach Patricia, flat out,” Daniels told reporters, according to the team's website.

“He's just a genius. He really is. He understands the game of football. He knows what it takes. So to be able to play for a coach like that, it means everything. I'm really trying to be restrained right now because I'm so excited. If I could do a backflip right now, I'd do one, but I can't. I'm really excited.”

Daniels went as far to say that he was happy the Packers decided to cut him so he could play for a coach like Patricia.

“I thank God that I got cut and I have an opportunity to play for a genius,” Patricia said.

Daniels also got a nice chunk of change for playing with the Lions signing a deal worth up to $9.1 million that has $7.8 fully guaranteed.

Daniels no doubt is going to make the Lions defense better and with a genius like Patricia coaching him, maybe he can improve his game even more.
