The Chicago Bears mounted a ferocious comeback against NFC North division rival Detroit Lions on Sunday, the NFL's Week 1 action.

However, the Bears' win was sealed when Lions rookie running back D'Andre Swift dropped a relatively easy potential game-winning touchdown reception via veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford with single-digit seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter (via Dov Kleiman on Twitter).

Swift, 21, was backpedaling into Chicago's end zone when Stafford's perfectly placed pass slipped from the rookie's palms and out of bounds, giving the Bears' a 27-23 Week 1 victory over rival Lions.

The Lions held the lead for most of the game, including at one point a 17-point advantage a few minutes into the fourth quarter.

Swift, a former Georgia standout rusher selected by the Lions with the 35th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, will surely be having nightmares about dropping what could have been the game-winning score in his NFL debut. Despite the missed game-winning touchdown grab, the rookie also tallied just eight rushing yards on three carries, scoring a rushing touchdown and added 15 more yards in the air on three catches.

Of course, the Lions neophyte is wishing it was one more catch that would have won the game.

The Lions visit the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.
