The Texas Longhorns are in the process of turning around the program and returning to their former status as a college football powerhouse. The first step in doing that was landing the commitment of the most coveted high school recruit in recent memory, Arch Manning, nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning. Ahead of his first year in Austin, Manning received some important advice from a quarterback who has been in his position before. Jacksonville Jaguars QB and former top-ranked prospect Trevor Lawrence offered some wisdom to Manning before his freshman season via an interview with The Spun.

“I’m sure he has a lot of good people in his corner that can help him, but I’d say it’s really important to learn how to manage expectations. It’s important to block out all the noise. The only voices you should listen to are your internal expectations of yourself, your teammates, your coaches and family. You should try to block everything else out,” said Lawrence of the Longhorns' commit.

“There’s going to be a lot on his plate, but you have to show up ready to learn and grow. You’re not going to be perfect from Day 1, but he is really talented and has a lot of abilities. He needs to carry that confidence over while knowing you do have to start over. You have to do that at every level. It’s something I’m going through right now in the NFL. So you need to realize you’re there for a reason, but you have to earn that respect from your teammates. He seems like a quarterback who’ll do great.”

Lawrence seems to share everyone else's high expectations for Manning, but warned that he needs to block out the external noise that will constantly be surrounding him. As one of the most high-profile high school athletes ever, Manning will have the spotlight on him in ways most other college football players couldn't even imagine.

There's a significant chance Manning doesn't even see the field as a freshman at Texas, where he'll be competing with some talented arms including Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card. Even when he's not on the field, he can expect to be the topic of conversation throughout the year. Lawrence is urging him to do his best to block all of that out and keep his focus on improving his craft.

There's hardly a better person to seek advice from than Lawrence, who has been in a very similar position to what Manning currently finds himself in at Texas. With everyone keeping close tabs on his progress, Lawrence is advising Manning to focus on things he can control.
