Maryland native Markelle Fultz had quite a return to Washington on Sunday, leading the Orlando Magic to a 125-121 win over the Washington Wizards at the Capital One Center.

Going up against fellow Washington Huskies alum and mentor Isaiah Thomas, the 21-year-old scored a career-best 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field in 26 minutes of action  to give the Magic its sixth win of the season.

Thomas, who scored 13 markers in the lost, took to Twitter to express his mixed feelings on Fultz’s inspiring performance.

Fultz came out hot from the get-go, making his first six attempts, including two makes from beyond the arc. The Wizards tested Fultz’s jumper early on, but he made them pay by draining his open looks.

“I work on those. I put in a lot of work.  A lot of times, I’m working on that shot. When I see an open shot I shoot it with confidence,” Markelle shared post-game.

Fultz also connected on several highlight drives, including a one-handed tomahawk that had the home fans buzzing.

After being chosen first overall in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, Fultz has had a rough start to his NBA career and played in only 33 regular in his first two seasons.

A bizarre shoulder injury has left him with a noticeable hitch in his jumper, as he struggled to put up the same impact he had in his one-and-done career with the Huskies

Fultz has regained a new lease on his basketball career this year after being traded to the Magic before the 2019 February trade deadline. He is averaging 10.5 points on 48.6 shooting from the field and 21.4 from three in 10 games for the Magic.
