The Seattle Mariners have had a strong start to the 2024 MLB season. Seattle's 36-30 record ranks them first in the AL West standings. However, the Mariners received a tough injury update on first baseman Ty France during their series against the Kansas City Royals.

France has been dealing with tenderness in his right heel, but the team has determined that his ailment is more serious than originally thought. The Mariners placed France on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a displaced right heel fracture, per the Seattle Times. France suffered the injury when a pitch struck him in his back foot on Friday night. He played through the discomfort, hitting a pair of doubles and reaching base four times. Yet, the pain grew worse, and the Mariners scratched him from the lineup.

Hopefully, Ty France will make a safe and speedy recovery from his lower leg ailment. The 29-year-old first baseman has been a serviceable member of the Mariners' offense.

Through 61 games, France has batted a .261 average, hit seven home runs, and has been responsible for 27 RBI with a .732 OPS. Seattle needs him healthy to continue their stout attack.

The Mariners look to bounce back from their 8-4 loss to the Royals on Saturday. Sunday afternoon's game marks the end of the three-game series. The Royals possess a 39-26 record, good enough to place them second in the AL Central. After their final matchup with Seattle, they will take on a tough challenge against the New York Yankees.

As for Seattle, the club wants to continue to push its limits through the middle part of the season.

Seattle is in a prime position to continue their regular season run and push for a deep playoff showing. The Mariners have a stunning hold on the reigning World Series champion Texas Rangers, who sit second in the Al West. Just behind the Rangers are the ALCS running-up Houston Astros. If Seattle stays consistent, they will have a chance to win the title themselves in the Fall.

Moreover, analysts believe the Mariners are suitors to pull off a big trade move that could push them over the hump.

“This is the year, rival executives say, that the Seattle Mariners make their boldest move at the trade deadline and acquire offensive help knowing they have a legitimate chance for the World Series with their star-studded starting rotation… Mets first baseman Pete Alonso may be the perfect fit,” Bob Nightengale reports.

Would Pete Alonso give Seattle the edge they need to win the World Series? Alonso would supply them with much-needed power, especially after Ty France's injury. The 29-year-old New York Mets baseman has hit 12 home runs through the first part of the season, which ranks him 12th in the league. In addition, he bats a .240 average and has accumulated 32 RBI on a .797 OPS. New York is not having the success they hoped for so far. Perhaps they will retool and unload Alonso.

Regardless, the Mariners must lock in and continue their momentum as they approach the middle of June.
