Much has changed for the Kansas City Chiefs since Matt Nagy was last in the organization. Nagy initially joined the Chiefs in 2013 to serve as their new quarterbacks coach. He later went on to take over as offensive coordinator for the team before going on to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears in 2018.

Nagy spent a mere one season coaching Patrick Mahomes during his first run in Kansas City, which came in the latter's rookie year. Since then, Mahomes has not only blossomed into being of the more efficient passers in recent memory, but he has also led the team to grand success.

Nagy, who is back with the Chiefs as both a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach, sees that the one-time NFL MVP winner has a ceiling that “is even higher.”

“Now to come back, four or five years later, and see in that room how much Patrick has grown, it’s amazing,” Nagy said during a press conference on Thursday. “It gives me chills to talk about it, because I also know his ceiling is even higher.”

Nagy is looking forward to working with Mahomes on a week-by-week basis later this year. What has already stood out to him is just how “coachable” the Chiefs quarterback is.

“You think a guy like this, like you’ve done everything,” Nagy said. “You won a Super Bowl. You’ve been to four straight AFC Championships. He’s so coachable, and he wants that.

“There’s a hunger there, and to me, that’s exciting.”

There sure is plenty of hunger across the Chiefs roster following the playoff exit at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals in last season’s 2022 AFC Championship Game. All eyes will be on whether Mahomes and company will use the defeat as fuel heading into the 2022 campaign.
